Shock Wave Therapy for Calcific Tendinitis

Calcific tendinitis (CT) shoulder is a self-limiting disorder characterized by deposition of calcium salts in rotator cuff muscles.
Symptoms: pain, activity restriction
Conventional Treatment protocols include: physio modalities, deep friction massage, iontophoresis, local and systemic non- inflammatory, needle irrigation-aspiration of calcium deposit and subacromial steroid injection
Recent research supports and documents effect of Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy as a minimally invasive effective treatment of calcific tendinitis prior to deciding on surgery.
A 6 month follow up study proved SWT increases shoulder function, reduces pain, and is effective in dissolving calcifications and these results were maintained over the following 6 months.
