If you were injured at work in British Columbia, you may be able to receive physiotherapy through a WorkSafeBC claim while you recover. This guide explains how WorkSafeBC physiotherapy works and what to expect at MJ Physio’s Vancouver and Surrey clinics.
Do I Need a Doctor’s Referral for WorkSafeBC Physiotherapy?
In most cases, no referral is needed to start. A physiotherapist can assess a work injury directly. Tell our front desk your injury is work-related and share your WorkSafeBC claim number if you already have one. If you have not filed a claim yet, we can still assess your injury while you report it to your employer and WorkSafeBC.
How Do I Start a WorkSafeBC Claim?
Report the injury to your employer as soon as you can, then file a claim with WorkSafeBC (online or through their Teleclaim phone line). Keep your claim number — give it to our clinic so your visits are billed under the right claim.
Does WorkSafeBC Cover Physiotherapy?
WorkSafeBC may pay for physiotherapy connected to an accepted work-injury claim, within their fee schedule. Whether a claim is accepted, and how many visits are approved, is decided by WorkSafeBC — the clinic cannot guarantee coverage or outcomes. If a claim is delayed or denied, ask us about direct billing to your extended health plan. If you were injured in a car accident rather than at work, see our ICBC physiotherapy guide.
What Happens at the First WorkSafeBC Physiotherapy Visit?
Your physiotherapist will assess the injury, review how it happened, diagnose the problem, and build a treatment plan with work-focused goals, like returning to your regular duties safely. With your consent, we can share progress reports with your WorkSafeBC case manager.
